Maxine

Yesterday, Maxine gave me some advice:

"Only get married if you have nothing else to do."

So I have been thinking about that. Obviously I am not in a situation where marriage is even an option, but if I were, I think this is very good advice to consider. Right now, I couldn't get married because I have other things to do. Like possibly go to the Ukraine next winter semester. I'm also in the middle of getting really good at my job, so I need to focus a lot of my attention there. I have laundry to do. Which wouldn't really stop me from getting married but the thought of doing laundry for two almost does. I have a few bad habits to break. I have some talents to acquire like cooking and cleaning and not being selfish. I have my calling to do, and I need to gain a stronger testimony of visiting teaching before I can get married. I have a lot of service that needs to be done. I have much to do. So clearly I shouldn't get married, according to Maxine.

But then I think of my married sister and my married friends and I think they would give me different advice. I think they would tell me that they are glad they got married, even if they had other things to do. So if I were in a thinking-about-marriage situation, I would have to consider their advice as well, and who knows what I would decide. But the point of this post is that I am very very glad to have people giving me advice. I am so happy to have married friends who teach me to not be closed-minded/hearted, and I am so happy to have elderly friends who teach me to really live my life because I have it so good right now.

I never have to go it alone. There are so many people I respect and admire and can look to for advice if my life ever starts being serious. So thank you all!
